Maria Sharapova Hires Sven Groeneveld

By Maria Noble In Archive

Maria Sharapova has found a new coach: Sven Groeneveld, former Adidas Player Development Program consultant. Prior to working with Adidas, Groeneveld coached Monica Seles and Mary Pierce to Major titles and, while with Adidas, helped Ana Ivanovic win the 2008 French Open title.

Maria announced the hire on Facebook and said:

I’m happy to announce my official partnership with Sven Groeneveld. We’ve been working together since I got back on the court and after seeing him on the opposing side for so many years, I’m excited to have him become a part of my team.

It has been a very seamless transition and I have had a lot of fun with the hard work we have put in so far.

Looking forward to the year ahead.

Judging from the one photo, Groeneveld looks quite chummy with the rest of Team Sharapova. This is already a better start than the last one.
